The $70 Million Domain Deal: How AI.com Became the Most Expensive Web Address in History

In the fast-evolving worlds of artificial intelligence and digital branding, few moves have captured attention quite like the recent revelation of the AI.com domain sale. Marszalek, no stranger to high-stakes domain investments, previously acquired Crypto.com for around $12 million in 2018—a move that helped transform the platform into a major player in the crypto space. He described the AI.com purchase as a personal investment rather than a direct Crypto.com corporate action, though it aligns with his vision for building trusted, consumer-facing tech brands.

The payment was executed entirely in cryptocurrency, underscoring the buyer’s roots in the blockchain world and bypassing traditional banking channels. Broker Larry Fischer announced the sale price on LinkedIn, calling it “the largest domain name transaction ever completed” and highlighting its significance in the AI boom.

Marszalek has reportedly turned down substantial resale offers since the acquisition, emphasizing long-term branding over quick flips. In a statement, he noted that he assembled a dedicated development team immediately after the purchase to build out the platform.

Launching an Ambitious AI Platform
The domain isn’t sitting idle. AI.com is set to serve as the flagship for a new consumer-oriented AI service focused on “autonomous AI agents.” These agents go beyond chat-based tools like traditional large language models—they’re designed to act independently on behalf of users, handling real-world tasks such as:
Organizing workflows and sending messages
Interacting with apps and executing actions
Building projects or even trading stocks
Autonomously developing new features to complete tasks, with improvements shared across a network of agents

The platform officially launches on February 8, 2026, timed to coincide with a high-profile Super Bowl LX commercial. Super Bowl ads are notoriously expensive (often millions for 30 seconds), so pairing the domain debut with one of the world’s biggest advertising stages signals massive ambition—and marketing muscle.
